Do you have a Core Talent? Of course you do!

It’s so easy to undermine yourself. To focus on what you can’t do, rather than where you shine. But right now in the world, we need everyone to be firing on all cylinders so we can get through the challenges that lie ahead.

Before I retired, I worked as an Executive Coach in Leadership and Management Development. I saw so many people who were brilliant in different ways, yet consistently hid their light under a bushel. Instead they worked really hard to do others things well and ignored what came naturally.

I could see the opportunity but they were blind to it. So it set me thinking – what's going one that so many people struggle to shine, missing what is right in front of their noses. So I wrote The Psychology of Success to help people focus

Core Talent

I soon realised. Their talent was so natural they took it for granted. They assumed anyone could do it, so dismissed it as anything useful.

Core talent is:

  • What you do naturally

  • What your friends come to you for

  • What you’re doing when time flies and you are having the best time

There is no need to find a snazzy name for it. Just label as you wish.

My own core talent

I ‘get’ relationships. I’m the one who comes away from a party talking about the arguments that were going on and the people who were newly in love….. I realise it each time when my husband looks non plussed at what I’m saying!

I also have the knack of taking quite complex subjects and simplifying them so others can understand. I love doing that and can spend hours working out what the actual message is and the best way to frame it. It’s why I’ve written the books I have – to help others get to grips with something that can seem convoluted or nebulous: from Inspirational Managers to Insulation!

I just need to remember that when I come up with a good idea and then I can decide if it’s an idea for me or for someone else.

Aim Bigger

I don’t normally talk about this anymore – insulation has taken over my heart! However I was asked to contribute to the Aim Bigger Summit so it seemed the ideal time to share what I’ve learned so other people can find the confidence to step outside the box and follow their heart.

So go listen to the talk if you want to know more. And send me any questions.

Let’s get out ducks in a row and do our best for ourselves, future generations and the planet
